The Lagos State Government has announced the cancellation of the 2025 Greater Lagos Fiesta, which was scheduled to hold on December 31, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, following the approval of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to the statement, the Governor directed that in place of the annual Greater Lagos Fiesta (Countdown 2026), Lagosians should dedicate the period to personal prayers for the nation, Lagos State and its people.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged residents to pray for the State’s continued prosperity, effective leadership, peace, productivity, the general wellbeing of all Lagosians.
While wishing residents a happy, prosperous New Year, the Governor expressed optimism about the coming year, noting that 2026 holds great promise for both Lagos State and Nigeria.

He further encouraged Lagosians to continue living together in peace and harmony, assuring them of his administration’s renewed commitment to good governance, service delivery.
“On behalf of my family, I wish every resident of our dear State a happy, prosperous New Year. I want to assure you all that the year 2026 will be a better year for us in the State, as our administration is determined towards working twice as hard to deliver the good for the residents of the State,” the Governor said.
