Borno State Police Command has announced a restriction on the movement of tricycles (Keke NAPEP) across the state from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, as part of measures to ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, who said the move is aimed at enhancing security coordination, easing crowd control, and preventing potential threats.

The command also advised residents to observe Eid prayers at locations close to their homes to minimise movement and avoid overcrowding.

“To ensure a hitch-free celebration, a comprehensive security architecture has been emplaced to protect lives and property,” the statement read.

As part of the security arrangements, the police, in collaboration with other agencies, have deployed personnel to Eid prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, and other vulnerable locations for surveillance, traffic control, and crowd management.

Operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit have also been stationed at strategic points to screen persons and items entering major gathering venues.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has directed commanders and officers to intensify visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, and patrols throughout the festive period while maintaining professionalism and respect for human rights.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant, celebrate responsibly, and report any suspicious activity, while parents were advised to keep close watch over their children in crowded areas.

The heightened security measures come in the wake of recent explosions at multiple locations in Maiduguri, raising concerns about public safety.

The police, however, reassured residents of their commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the festivities.
