RIVERS POLICE SENSITIZE PUBLIC ON ELECTORAL OFFENCES, ROAD SAFETY DURING POLICE DAY ACTIVITIES

The Rivers State Police Command on Wednesday carried out a public sensitization campaign on electoral offences, the dangers of electoral violence, safe driving practices as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day celebration.

The exercise was led by the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, alongside Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers across the command.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, the awareness campaign was conducted simultaneously at Area Command headquarters, motor parks, and major bus stops within various police divisions across the state.

During the engagements, police officers interacted with motorists, transport operators, and other members of the public, educating them on election-related offences, the consequences of electoral violence, and the importance of complying with traffic regulations.

The sessions also provided an opportunity for participants to ask questions, get clarifications on electoral laws, road safety practices, and the role of citizens in ensuring peaceful elections.

The police command noted that the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen public awareness, promote peaceful civic participation ahead of future electoral processes.

Meanwhile, activities lined up for the fourth day of the National Police Day celebration on Thursday, April 2, 2026, will include the presentation of cheques to families of deceased personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

The presentation will be carried out by the Commissioner of Police on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as part of the force’s welfare support programme for families of fallen officers.

CP Adepoju expressed appreciation to residents of Rivers State for their cooperation during the sensitisation campaigns and other activities marking the celebration.
