The National Assembly has announced that both the Senate and the House of Representatives will reconvene plenary sessions on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

The announcement was made on Sunday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr. Kamoru Ogunlana.

According to the statement, plenary in both chambers will resume at 11:00a.m. Lawmakers have been urged to adjust their schedules to ensure full attendance, as crucial decisions are expected to be taken during the sessions.

The statement, however, did not disclose the specific issues to be deliberated upon.

Plenary had earlier been suspended to allow more time for Ministries, Departments and Agencies to defend their 2026 budget proposals before relevant committees.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives is also expected to hold an emergency sitting on Tuesday to consider matters arising from the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

This follows the release of the 2027 general election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

In a statement issued by the House spokesman, Mr. Akin Rotimi, lawmakers were informed through an internal memorandum from the Office of the Speaker.

The election timetable has sparked debate, particularly over dates that may coincide with the Ramadan fasting period, expected to begin around February 7, 2027.

Some lawmakers and concerned Nigerians have raised issues about the potential clash.

Tuesday’s session may therefore consider possible adjustments to ensure electoral activities do not conflict with the Ramadan period.
