American gospel singer, worship leader, and songwriter Ron Kenoly has died at the age of 81.

Kenoly reportedly passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a development confirmed by several artistes on social media.

Reacting to his death, Nigerian gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey described Kenoly as a generational inspiration, saying his songs shaped the worship experience of many psalmists across the world.

Kenoly, born on December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, was celebrated for iconic worship songs such as “Majesty,” “Lift Him Up,” “Righteousness, Peace & Joy,” and “Jesus Is Alive.” His music career took off after serving in the United States Air Force, with the 1992 album Lift Him Up becoming the fastest-selling worship album of its time.

Over the years, Kenoly’s albums and live worship events influenced congregational worship globally, particularly in Africa.

He leaves behind a lasting legacy in gospel music, inspiring worship leaders, musicians, and believers worldwide through his music, ministry, and message of praise.
