Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated 10,000 disposable sanitary pads to schoolgirls in Kogi State as part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) aimed at promoting menstrual health and girl-child education.

The donation was made on Wednesday in Lokoja during the launch of the “Flow With Confidence” initiative, a nationwide programme designed to empower schoolgirls through menstrual health education and improved access to sanitary products.

Represented by the Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Sefinat Ododo, Mrs. Tinubu said the initiative would see the distribution of 370,000 sanitary pads to girls in rural communities across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

She explained that the programme seeks to address challenges faced by girls who lack access to sanitary products, a situation that often leads to school absenteeism and, in some cases, dropouts.

“Today, I am handing over 10,000 disposable sanitary pads to the Kogi State First Lady for distribution to 10,000 girls in rural areas, with each beneficiary receiving a year’s supply,” she said.

She added that the Renewed Hope Initiative has committed N2.55 billion to procure the sanitary pads from a local manufacturer for nationwide distribution.

“We believe that no girl should ever have to choose between her dignity and her education,” she stated.

Mrs. Tinubu called on stakeholders, including corporate organisations and government agencies, to support the programme, while commending Governor Ahmed Ododo and his wife for their commitment to girl-child development in the state.

Also speaking, Grace Afolabi of the Federal Ministry of Health emphasised the importance of menstrual hygiene education, urging parents to properly guide their children and calling on government at all levels to invest more in menstrual health.

Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, described the initiative as “a movement to restore dignity, build confidence, and ensure that no girl is left behind because of menstruation.” He expressed appreciation to the First Lady and the state government for the intervention.

Similarly, the State Coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Tijani Oricha, said the programme reflects a strong commitment to inclusion, dignity, and uninterrupted education for girls.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Head Girl of GYB Model Science Secondary School, Adankolo, Goodnews Shiloba, commended the First Lady for the initiative, noting that it would greatly support girls in managing their menstrual health with confidence.

The initiative also encourages broader partnerships to expand its reach and ensure that more girls across the country benefit from improved access to sanitary products and menstrual health education.
