“Respect Our Tradition or Face Sanctions,” Regina Daniels’ Kinsmen Warn Ned Nwoko
Tension is brewing in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, as the kinsmen of popular Nollywood actress Regina Daniels have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, demanding that he accept the return of the bride price paid during their marriage.
In an open letter signed by Favour Awele Obi on behalf of the community, the family accused the lawmaker of using his political power to intimidate and harass Regina’s relatives, while blatantly disregarding local customs and traditional marriage laws.
The letter, which has since gone viral on social media, was also shared by Regina’s brother, Sweezzy, and fellow Nollywood actor, Stanley Ontop.
According to the Ogwashi-Uku community, their customary law grants a woman the right to exit her marriage if she chooses. Once that decision is made, the bride’s family is traditionally required to return the bride price to officially dissolve the union.
They alleged that despite several attempts to return the payment, Senator Nwoko has repeatedly refused to accept it — a move the community described as “an affront to tradition and peace.”
“If Senator Nwoko continues to reject the repayment, the money will be placed at the Ikeleke Quarter in Ogwashi-Uku,” the letter stated. “This act symbolizes the formal end of a marriage according to our customs.”
The group also expressed concern over what they described as “the unlawful arrest and intimidation” of some of Regina’s family members, allegedly on Nwoko’s orders. They condemned such actions, warning that they would not tolerate further disrespect to their heritage or violation of community norms.
“Our daughter has made her decision known, and her family has fulfilled all cultural obligations by returning the bride price,” the statement continued. “Senator Nwoko’s refusal to accept it does not invalidate the process. We urge him to respect our customs and release the detained family members immediately.”
This development follows reports that Regina Daniels accused her estranged husband of ordering the arrest of her brother and sister after she declined to return to the marriage.
Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko were married in 2019 — a union that drew national attention due to their significant age gap and Nwoko’s polygamous background. The couple share two sons together.
As of press time, Senator Nwoko has not issued any official statement addressing the allegations or responding to the Ogwashi-Uku community’s open letter.
The situation has continued to generate widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians urging both parties to seek a peaceful and culturally respectful resolution.
