President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the winners of Saturday’s elections held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the states of Kano and Rivers.
According to a statement released on February 22, 2026, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the elections were conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across the six area councils of the FCT, as well as by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, and the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
President Tinubu urged the winners to serve with humility, dedication, and patriotism, describing the mandate given by the electorate as a sacred trust.
He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his achievements in the territory, which he said contributed to political successes for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The President congratulated the APC national leadership, as well as the party structures in Kano and Rivers States, for their victories, and praised INEC, security agencies, and voters for ensuring peaceful and successful polls.
He further lauded all contestants for their courage and discipline, noting that competitive participation strengthens democracy.
President Tinubu affirmed that the elections have reinforced democratic culture and institutions in Nigeria and encouraged INEC to continue improving its processes for even more credible elections in the future.
