The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Mohammed Baba Azare, on Tuesday led officers and men of the Command in a walkathon in Uyo as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week.

The exercise, held on the second day of the nationwide event, took off from the State Command Headquarters and terminated at Ibom Plaza, drawing participation from various security agencies and stakeholders.

Among those present were personnel of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Representatives of corporate organizations and civil groups, including Ibom Air, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Civil Society Organisations, POWA, NAWOJ, COOPA, and the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), also participated.

Speaking during the event, CP Azare said the walkathon was aimed at strengthening community policing, enhancing police visibility, and promoting public safety across the state.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the theme of this year’s Police Week, “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”

According to him, the exercise also highlights the fitness and operational readiness of police personnel, while reassuring residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

The police boss urged members of the public to collaborate with security agencies by providing useful information, stressing that the Police remain accessible, responsive, and committed to addressing public concerns professionally.

He commended sister security agencies and other stakeholders for their participation, describing it as a demonstration of unity and collective responsibility in maintaining peace and security in the state.

The walkathon forms part of a series of activities lined up nationwide to mark the 2026 National Police Week.
