Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have rescued four passengers abducted by armed men along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Irepo Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Friday.

According to the statement, the victims were kidnapped in the early hours of Thursday, March 5, when gunmen emerged from a nearby bush and blocked the road, intercepting a commercial bus travelling from Igbeti to Kishi.

During the attack, the assailants reportedly forced four passengers into the bush while other occupants of the vehicle managed to escape.

Ayanlade said that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officers of Igbeti and Kishi divisions, alongside relevant tactical teams, to mobilise all necessary resources to secure the victims’ release.

Following the directive, a joint security team comprising police operatives, members of the Amotekun Corps, Operation Burst, and other local security stakeholders launched an intensive search operation in the surrounding forests.

“The sustained bush combing operation, which lasted for several hours, mounted significant pressure on the criminals, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee the scene,” Ayanlade said.

He added that the four victims were rescued unharmed, regained their freedom, and have since been reunited with their families.

The police spokesman noted that security operatives have continued combing the area in a bid to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant, provide credible information which could assist security agencies in tracking down the perpetrators.
