The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities with a series of intelligence-led operations in Eket and Okopedi, leading to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of firearms and illicit substances.
The operations, carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, took place on March 21, 2026.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, operatives raided a suspected criminal hotspot in Okopedi at about 7:45 p.m., where four male suspects were apprehended.
The suspects were identified as Paul Sunday, Nelson Ekpa, Akaninyene Valentine, and Idongesit Harrison.
Items recovered from the scene included tools commonly associated with the preparation and consumption of illicit drugs, as well as quantities of crystal methamphetamine, popularly known as “ice.”
In a separate operation along Abia Uduk Street in Ikot Ebok, Eket, police responded to reports of suspicious activity. On sighting the operatives, several suspects fled the area, abandoning a bag later found to contain two locally made pistols and two live cartridges.
The police said the arrested suspects are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and uncover the full extent of the criminal network.
The Command described the operations as part of its sustained efforts to rid the state of illegal firearms, drug abuse, and other criminal activities.
It also called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance public safety across the state.
