Security operatives have begun rescue operations following an attack by armed bandits on Kurfa community in Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Yazid Abubakar. According to the statement, the attackers stormed the community in large numbers and began shooting indiscriminately, creating panic among residents.
The chaos reportedly forced many villagers to flee for safety, while an undetermined number of people were abducted during the attack.
DSP Abubakar said a joint security team made up of police personnel, the military and other security agencies quickly responded to the situation and have launched operations to rescue those taken by the assailants.
He added that some residents who managed to escape from the attackers have been found by security operatives and are currently receiving medical attention.
The police spokesperson also noted that authorities are working to determine the exact number of those abducted while efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators.
Security agencies, he said, have intensified operations in the area as part of broader measures to restore peace, ensure the safety of residents across the state.
