Akwa Ibom State Police Command has foiled a suspected armed robbery attempt, arrested a 24-year-old suspect during a proactive operation along Abak Road in Uyo.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a press release issued on Thursday in Uyo.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on February 9, 2026, at about 10:00p.m., when operatives on pin-down duty at a strategic point along Abak Road observed three young men on a motorcycle acting suspiciously near a supermarket.
Acting on reasonable suspicion, the operatives moved in to apprehend the individuals. However, upon sighting the police, the suspects reportedly abandoned their belongings and fled the scene.
A manhunt was immediately launched, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects, identified as Abasifreke Udo, 24.
Items recovered at the scene include one live cartridge, an Infinix Hot 50 Pro mobile phone, a red tank Kymstom motorcycle with registration number UNC-370-QG (Abia State), scissors, a torchlight, razors, and nylon materials suspected to be used for packaging crystal methamphetamine.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects were allegedly preparing to carry out a criminal operation before the swift intervention of the operatives disrupted their plan.
