The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has foiled a suspected cable vandalism syndicate in Eket Local Government Area, arresting three suspects in an early morning operation.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the breakthrough occurred on February 22, 2026, at about 4:00a.m., following credible intelligence that some individuals had been vandalizing cables along Obiokpa Street in Eket, causing economic loss, posing serious security risks.
Acting on the intelligence, operatives of the Command carried out a targeted operation at the location, leading to the arrest of Isaac Peter at the scene. Exhibits linked to the vandalism were recovered immediately.
Further investigation and interrogation resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects identified as Peter Jacob and Edoho Nsima.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects were allegedly involved in a coordinated conspiracy to vandalise and unlawfully remove critical infrastructure materials.
The recovered exhibits have been secured, while the suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine the full scope of the network and identify possible collaborators.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance against vandalism, all forms of economic sabotage.
He warned that individuals engaged in the destruction of public and private infrastructure would face the full weight of the law.
The Command assured residents of Eket and the wider public of its continued commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and maintaining law and order across the state.
It also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.
