Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, has arrested a 26-year-old suspect for allegedly producing, distributing adulterated engine oil across Nigeria.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Gbenga Afolayan, said the arrest followed a petition submitted to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, over the illegal adulteration of engine oil products.
He explained that the case was assigned to the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit, whose detectives carried out a discreet investigation leading to the arrest of the suspect.
According to the police, the suspect confessed to masterminding the production and importation of adulterated engine oil from China and distributing the products across several states.
Police operatives also recovered about 280 gallons of the adulterated engine oil during intelligence-led raids in Imo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, and Ogun states.
The Standard Organisation of Nigeria confirmed that the seized products did not meet the required industrial standards.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring that those involved in economic crimes are brought to justice.
