The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers, recovered a pump-action rifle and a stolen motorcycle during an operation in Owerri.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, stating that the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the New Owerri Divisional Headquarters following credible intelligence.
According to him, the suspects, identified as Sohnani Bitrus, 25, and Burfa Selkap, 25, both natives of Langtang Local Government Area of Plateau State, were arrested on April 3.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had, at about 4:00 a.m., allegedly robbed a resident, Joel Andrew, at his home, threatening him with a firearm, carting away his red Daylong motorcycle with registration number NWA765QT.
“The motorcycle has since been recovered,” Okoye confirmed.
He added that further interrogation led operatives to the suspects’ hideout in Okwu-Uratta, Owerri North Local Government Area, where a pump-action rifle and a machete were also recovered.

The police spokesperson noted that the suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri for further investigation and to aid efforts to apprehend other members of the gang.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Audu Bosso, to safeguarding lives and property, Okoye assured residents of enhanced security during and after the Easter celebrations.

He also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to the police through the nearest station or via the emergency line: 08034773600.
