The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected female kidnappers in Ikoyi-Ile, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were identified as Fathia Nurudeen (17), Taiwo Fatai (17), and Munirat Saliu (16).
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Ibadan, the state capital, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olayinka Ayanlade.
According to the statement, the arrest followed a report by Islamiat Omowumi, a resident of Ikoyi-Ile, who alleged that she received a threatening phone call from a private number on Friday, January 9, 2026.
Ayanlade said the caller threatened to kidnap her, demanded human parts, and requested a ₦10 million ransom, claiming she was targeted because she is a meat seller. The caller allegedly warned of dire consequences if the demand was not met.
“In response to the report, detectives of the command immediately swung into action, deploying intelligence-led investigative measures, which swiftly led to the arrest of the suspects,” the statement read.
The police spokesperson said that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to making the call, claiming it was intended as a prank.
He added that a small Itel mobile phone, allegedly used to make the threatening call, was recovered from the suspects, further aiding the investigation.
Ayanlade noted that the suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to fully unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, determine appropriate legal action in line with the law.
The command warned members of the public, especially youths, against engaging in acts capable of causing fear, panic or threats to life, stressing that such actions constitute serious criminal offences with grave legal consequences.
The police also reassured residents of the state of their commitment to the protection of lives and property, urging the public to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
