The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity after disrupting an alleged cult meeting held within the premises of a secondary school in Oyo town.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, saying the arrests followed credible intelligence reports about the gathering.
According to the police, operatives of the Atiba Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Femi Haruna, mobilized to Bode Thomas Secondary School after receiving information that about 30 individuals, all dressed in black, were converging at the location for a suspected secret cult meeting.
On sighting the police operatives, the suspects reportedly fled into nearby bushes, while three of them were apprehended at the scene.
Those arrested were identified as Jelili Taiwo Kazeem, 20; Toheeb Adediran, 25; and Ayomide Taiwo, 23.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects, Adediran, who is a commercial motorcycle rider, allegedly conveyed some of the suspected cult members to the venue. His motorcycle was recovered and taken to the police station as part of ongoing investigations.
The police said the suspects confessed to being members of the Aiye Confraternity, claimed that they had gathered to celebrate one of their members.
