The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of a 35-year-old man, Saleh Ibrahim, and the ensuing unrest in Zaki Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which occurred on March 15, 2026, involved the attack and killing of Ibrahim, a resident of Sansan Village, by unidentified assailants while he was riding his motorcycle. The attackers reportedly used a sharp object, suspected to be a cutlass, and made away with his motorcycle.
Confirming the development in a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib, said investigations led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Muhammad Jauro Haladu Yako, 28; Muhammad Wito, 27; and Ibrahim Muhammad, 19, all from Alagarno Village in Zaki LGA.
According to the statement, the suspects are being investigated for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and disturbance of public peace.

Habib explained that upon receiving the report, officers led by the Divisional Police Officer of Zaki Division swiftly moved to the scene and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital, Katagum, where he was confirmed dead. His remains were later released to his family for burial.
The killing reportedly sparked protests by some members of the victim’s community, leading to further unrest. During the protest, some individuals allegedly set houses ablaze in Jama’aren Fulani Village. In the course of the disturbance, a 35-year-old man, Yahaya Haruna, sustained injuries from a bow and arrow attack.
“Joint security forces responded to the scene, and one police officer and one soldier were injured and treated,” Habib added.

The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, urging them to allow due process to take its course.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that patrols and surveillance have been intensified in the affected area and across the state to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
