Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a man suspected of impersonating a military officer, recovered a toy pistol allegedly used to intimidate residents in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Jonathan Akpan, a native of Obio Aduang Village, was apprehended on March 6, 2026, at about 10:00a.m. following a surveillance operation by police operatives.
In a statement issued on March 7 by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, the police disclosed that the suspect was found in possession of a toy pistol believed to have been used to threaten and intimidate unsuspecting members of the public.
According to the statement, substances suspected to be Indian hemp were also recovered from the suspect at the time of his arrest.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Akpan had allegedly been impersonating a military officer in order to deceive residents and carry out his criminal activities.
The police explained that the arrest was made possible through credible intelligence received by operatives of the Command. Acting swiftly on the information, officers conducted surveillance operations that led to the suspect’s successful arrest.
The Command added that further investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be connected to the suspect’s activities.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state, the police urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information that could assist law enforcement agencies in combating crime.
The Command also warned individuals engaged in criminal activities to desist, stressing that the law will ultimately catch up with offenders.
