The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight suspects over an alleged breach of public peace, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, assault on police officers – following a disturbance linked to the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba group in parts of Sango-Ota.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, December 25, 2025, with the arrests confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to Babaseyi, the disturbance took place at Temidire Junction and the Under-Bridge area of Sango-Ota, where members of the group allegedly barricaded major roads, disrupted vehicular movement, attacked police officers deployed to maintain law and order.
“On 25th December 2025, Christmas Day, at Temidire Junction and Under-Bridge, Sango-Ota, a group agitating under the aegis of the‘Democratic Republic of the Yoruba’ unlawfully barricaded roads, set bonfires, disrupted the free flow of traffic, attacked police officers,” the statement read.
He explained that police operatives were promptly mobilized to the affected areas to restore calm.
“Upon receiving the report, police operatives swiftly mobilized to the locations, successfully dispersed the group, arrested the following suspects,” Babaseyi said, listing the arrested persons as Adewale Sosanya (48), Opeyemi Oladotun (31), Zara Gabriel (22), Ajoke Gabriel (19), Adewale Adebomojo (48), Yusuf Tanimowo (40), Olurotimi Ademola (52), and Toyin Gabriel (40).
The police spokesperson further disclosed that several items were recovered during the operation.
These include a Toyota Dyna vehicle allegedly used to convey the suspects, two public address speakers, a carton containing flags, shirts – bearing inscriptions, banners displaying the group’s messages and manifesto.
He added that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, reassured residents of the command’s commitment towards maintaining peace and security across the state.
He warned that the police would not tolerate actions capable of breaching public peace, stressing that attacks on law enforcement officers would be met with firm, decisive measures.
