The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a couple, Kehinde Olawuyi and his wife, Eniola, over the death of a 28-year-old woman, identified simply as Iyanu, at an alleged illegal medical clinic in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the suspects were operating an unlicensed medical facility where the deceased had gone to give birth.
According to the police, a report was received on January 18, 2026, from a concerned resident of the Sabo area of Odigbo, alleging that the couple had admitted the woman on January 4, 2026, for delivery at their clinic in Orita.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly mishandled the procedure, causing the victim to lose large amount of blood and was unconscious. She was rushed to another medical facility for emergency treatment but was later confirmed dead.
Jimoh said investigations showed that the suspects were not registered medical practitioners, confirming that the clinic was operating illegally.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, the case is under investigation. It will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the police spokesperson said.
The command urged members of the public to patronize only registered, licensed medical facilities, promptly report suspicious operations to law enforcement agencies.
