Anambra State Police Command has taken into custody a 52-year-old man, Ndibe Jude Onyenwe, over his alleged involvement in conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, grievous bodily harm, and murder in Urum, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the suspect was handed over to the command on February 5, 2026, by operatives of the 302 Artillery Regiment, Nigerian Army Cantonment, Onitsha.
According to the statement, Onyenwe allegedly conspired with one Felix Godwin and other suspects currently at large to sponsor armed men who carried out a violent ambush along a road in Urum, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.
“During interrogation, Ndibe Jude Onyenwe reportedly confessed that Felix Godwin allegedly paid the sum of ₦500,000 through an Access Bank account to hire four gunmen from Ayamelum Local Government Area, alongside one Emeka (surname unknown) from Urum Community, who reportedly led the attack,” Ikenga said.
The police further alleged that Felix mobilised the suspect with ₦350,000 for the purchase of four packets of cartridges used in the operation.
During the ambush, six persons reportedly sustained serious bullet injuries.
Ikenga stated that the suspect is undergoing further interrogation, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend other suspects still at large.
