POLICE ARREST 24-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT OVER ALLEGED KIDNAPPING, RAPE IN RIVERS

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, identified as Otamiri Prince, in connection with an alleged case of kidnapping and rape involving a young woman in Port Harcourt.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Kaborlo Blessing, the arrest followed a formal complaint lodged on April 11, 2026, by a 24-year-old woman, Miss Thomas Alice, a resident of Eliozu in Port Harcourt.

The victim reported that she was abducted on January 3, 2026, after meeting an individual online who allegedly lured her to Igwuruta. From there, she was reportedly taken by a group of accomplices to a remote bush area in Ulakwo, Etche Local Government Area, where she was assaulted, raped, and dispossessed of her valuables before eventually being released.

Police authorities disclosed that upon receiving the report, operatives swiftly initiated an investigation, employing technology-driven strategies introduced under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu. The effort led to the arrest of the suspect, who allegedly confessed to the crime.

Items recovered from the suspect include an iPhone, a wig believed to belong to the victim, and other personal belongings.

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the suspected gang who are currently at large. He added that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The police command also issued a public advisory, urging individuals, particularly women and job seekers to exercise caution when engaging with strangers online. Residents were encouraged to verify identities before meeting, choose safe and public locations for physical interactions, and keep trusted contacts informed of their movements.

Authorities further emphasized the importance of vigilance, urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities or emergencies through designated police emergency lines.

The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents while pursuing justice in the case.
