The Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, has decorated 32 newly promoted Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) following their successful transition from the Inspectorate Cadre to the Superintendent Cadre.
The decoration ceremony, held at the Academy on February 12, 2026, marked a major milestone in the officers’ careers, signifying not only their elevation in rank but also the increased responsibilities attached to their new status.
Addressing the officers, the Commandant congratulated them on their promotion, urged them to demonstrate greater professionalism, commitment, and dedication to duty.
“This promotion is not merely a change in rank but a call to higher responsibility,” he said. “As officers in the Superintendent Cadre, you are expected to exhibit exemplary conduct, sound judgment, and unwavering commitment to the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.”
He emphasized that discipline remains the foundation of effective policing and charged the newly promoted officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct.
The Commandant also highlighted their critical role as mentors within the Academy, reminding them that as senior officers, they serve as role models to cadets undergoing training.
“You must always keep at the back of your minds that you are mentors to the cadets. Your actions, decisions, and comportment will shape the next generation of police officers,” he added.
He commended the 22nd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, and his management team for prioritizing personnel welfare and career progression within the Force. According to him, since assuming office in June 2023, the IGP has overseen the promotion of 141,054 officers, describing the achievement as unprecedented and morale-boosting.
The promotion of the 32 ASPs, he noted, forms part of the ongoing reform-driven agenda of the current police leadership aimed at rewarding merit, strengthening institutional capacity, and improving service delivery across the Nigeria Police Force.
The ceremony concluded with the formal decoration of the officers and a renewed pledge by the newly promoted ASPs to discharge their duties diligently in line with the vision and mission of the Force.
