PMAN APPOINTS SYDNEY SPARROW AS ACTING NATIONAL PRESIDENT

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has announced the appointment of Mr. Sydney Sparrow as the Association’s Acting National President, following the suspension of its substantive President, Mr. Pretty Okafor.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by PMAN’s National Treasurer, Mr. Baba Ojonugwa, made available to journalists in Owerri on Friday.

According to Ojonugwa, Sparrow’s nomination/appointment followed resolutions reached at an emergency NEC meeting convened to address what he described as serious governance, constitutional concerns within the Association.

“The decision was reached at an emergency NEC meeting convened on the night of December 25, 2025, to address serious governance and constitutional concerns affecting the Association,” Ojonugwa said.

He added that, acting in line with powers vested in it by the PMAN Constitution, the NEC resolved to suspend the National President pending the outcome of a full investigation and disciplinary process.

Ojonugwa explained that the decision was informed by several alleged infractions, including repeated violations of constitutional provisions, abuse of office, disregard for due process, actions considered detrimental to the welfare, credibility, integrity of the Association.

He further disclosed that the NEC adopted a number of far-reaching resolutions aimed at restoring order and transparency within PMAN.

These include the voiding of all unilateral appointments, the reinstatement of the National Treasurer, the commencement of a forensic audit of PMAN’s accounts and joint venture agreements, the appointment of an Acting National President in line with constitutional provisions.

“In the meantime, Sydney Sparrow, PMAN Governor, FCT, has been nominated as the Acting National President of PMAN National,” Ojonugwa stated.

He reassured PMAN members nationwide that the NEC’s actions were corrective rather than punitive, emphasizing the council’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of the collective interests of Nigerian musicians.
