The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has undertaken an operational visit to Plateau State following the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba community of Jos North Local Government Area, which claimed several lives.

During the visit, the IGP condemned the attack, describing it as tragic, unacceptable, and extended his condolences to the government and people of Plateau State.

Disu paid a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang before proceeding to the affected community for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

He disclosed that the Police Force had activated a swift and coordinated response immediately after receiving reports of the attack. This included the deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Usman Nadada, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force, AIG Francis Iwu, as well as eight units of the Police Mobile Force, the Special Intervention Squad, and other tactical and intelligence teams.

The IGP noted that the operations, carried out in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, have significantly de-escalated the situation.

He added that security operatives remain strategically deployed across affected areas to maintain law and order, while intelligence-led efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible.

The police boss emphasized that sustained operations would continue until full normalcy is restored, warning against any form of reprisal attacks or vigilantism.

“Youths must not take the law into their hands, as such actions could worsen the situation and undermine ongoing peace efforts,” he cautioned.

In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang commended the Nigeria Police Force for its prompt response to the crisis, particularly praising the leadership of the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, and the role of the Police Mobile Force.

However, the governor called for structural reforms in the nation’s security architecture, including the establishment of state police to enhance effectiveness.

He also advocated the deployment of modern policing tools such as night surveillance drones with infrared capabilities to improve security operations.

Mutfwang further urged the State Criminal Investigation Department and the State Intelligence Bureau to intensify intelligence gathering, while reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies with logistics.

The IGP assured that he would brief President Bola Tinubu on the situation as part of ongoing national security coordination efforts.

He called on residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies by providing credible information to support ongoing operations.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country.
