The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, over his remarks suggesting that the opposition party had lost its relevance following recent defections by some political office holders.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP described Morka’s comments as “unfortunate” and reflective of what it called a misguided assessment of the country’s political landscape.

The party alleged that the defections were the result of pressure and inducement, insisting that Nigerians had continued to express dissatisfaction with the ruling APC’s policies and governance.

The PDP also claimed that internal challenges faced by the APC in its membership registration efforts showed declining public confidence in the ruling party.

It further cited recent political developments, including disruptions at political events in some states, as indicators of what it described as growing public discontent.

The opposition party maintained that it remained a viable political force and accused the APC leadership of attempting to undermine democratic competition through political rhetoric.

The statement added that the PDP would continue to mobilise support and engage Nigerians ahead of future electoral contests.

Political observers say the exchange highlights heightening tensions between major political parties as preparations gradually begin for the next electoral cycle.
