The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans to approach the Supreme Court following a judgment by the Court of Appeal which upheld the suspension of some national officers of the party.
In a statement issued on Monday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP said the appellate court, in a judgment delivered earlier in the day, upheld earlier decisions of the Federal High Court regarding the suspension of the party’s National Legal Adviser and other affected officers.
According to the statement, the Court of Appeal panel presided over by Justice Mohammed Ambi-Usi Danjuma affirmed the judgments earlier delivered by Justice Omotosho and Justice Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court also dismissed an appeal challenging the interlocutory orders issued by Justice Abdulmalik.
The party expressed concern that the implementation of the judgment could create significant difficulties for its members, noting that consultations are already ongoing with critical organs of the party to determine the next line of action.
Ememobong stated that the party has instructed its legal team to immediately file an appeal at the Supreme Court, seeking a final determination of the issues.
“We have instructed our lawyers to immediately take legal steps to appeal to the Supreme Court, being the apex court in the land, to conclusively adjudicate on this matter,” the statement read.
The party expressed optimism that the Supreme Court would expeditiously resolve the matter in the interest of democracy.
While urging members to remain calm and resolute, the PDP leadership said it remains determined to pursue what it described as a battle to reclaim and protect the integrity of the party.
“We urge our members to stand firm, trusting that soon this battle will be over and we shall be more than conquerors,” the statement added.
