The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified that it is not conducting congresses in any part of the country, describing reports to the contrary as false, misleading.

In a press statement issued on March 2, 2026, and signed by its National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, the party alleged that the information was being circulated by expelled members who, according to it, are working in the interest of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP accused the former members of attempting to destabilize the party, undermine Nigeria’s multiparty democratic system.

It further alleged that the individuals were acting as appendages of the APC in what it described as a calculated move to weaken the opposition.

The statement also claimed that certain individuals had “mortgaged the fate” of the party in exchange for political appointments and favours, warning that the PDP would not allow its platform to be used as a bargaining tool with the ruling party.

The party referenced the recently concluded FCT Area Council elections, suggesting that similar actions had previously occurred.

The PDP emphasized that it remains committed to the principles of multiparty democracy, which it described as vital for a heterogeneous and pluralistic society like Nigeria.

While dismissing the reported congresses, the party disclosed that it is currently undertaking a nationwide digital membership registration exercise, which it said has commenced and is progressing smoothly.

The party urged its members and the general public to disregard any announcements or activities relating to purported congresses and assured them that official updates would be communicated through appropriate channels.
