The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for justice following the killing of seven civilians at a mining site in Wat, Kuru District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, on January 21, 2026.
In a statement posted on the party’s X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Choji Dalyop, the PDP condemned the attack, describing it as a tragic and unacceptable loss of innocent lives.
The party criticized the government for what it termed an “egregious failure” to protect citizens, warning that persistent violence continues to erode public confidence, poses serious threat to democracy in Plateau State.
The PDP referenced a 2025 fact-finding report commissioned by Governor Caleb M. Mutfwang, which reportedly documented attacks on 420 communities, the displacement of thousands of residents, and the loss of nearly 12,000 lives across the state.
According to the report, many of the attackers allegedly originated from neighbouring states, with the violence described as coordinated and deliberate.
The party demanded:
“A transparent and impartial investigation into the killings, with findings made public; swift prosecution of the perpetrators to ensure accountability; and a clear, actionable government plan to address insecurity and prevent further loss of life.”
Dalyop stressed that mere statements of condemnation were no longer sufficient.
“The art of rhetoric and empty condemnations alone will not suffice herein, for the people demand action, justice, and a government that prioritises human life over and above political power,” he said.
He added that the @OfficialPDPNig stands in solidarity with the families of the victims and affected communities, urging both national and international stakeholders to closely monitor the resurgence of insecurity, human rights situation in Plateau State with a view towards ensuring swift and decisive action.
