The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the Nigeria Police Force over the unsealing and subsequent occupation of its National Secretariat, describing the move as a violation of due process and a threat to democratic order.

In a press statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the opposition party accused the police of acting in defiance of an ongoing legal process.

According to the statement, the court judgment cited as the basis for the action delivered by Justice Abdulmalik has already been appealed, with all parties, including the police, duly notified.

The PDP argued that the police action amounts to interference in a matter still before the courts, warning that such conduct could undermine the eventual ruling of the Court of Appeal. It described the development as “shameful,” noting that an institution tasked with upholding the law appeared to be disregarding it.

The party further alleged that the police acted in a partisan manner, claiming officers had consistently supported individuals it described as agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), allegedly posing as PDP members. The statement also referenced political interests linked to Nyesom Wike, suggesting undue influence in the unfolding situation.

While expressing disappointment, the PDP urged its members nationwide to remain calm and law-abiding, emphasizing the need to avoid actions that could disrupt public peace.

The party assured supporters that it would pursue all lawful avenues to defend its structure and protect the rights of its members.

Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the PDP expressed optimism that what it described as “state-sponsored persecution” would soon come to an end, paving the way for a return to what it termed a genuine democratic experience in Nigeria.

The PDP encouraged party faithful to remain resolute amid the challenges, with confidence that the situation would ultimately be resolved in their favour.
