The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep sympathy to the families of the 163 worshippers kidnapped during Sunday service in Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, urging the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to take urgent action.
In a statement signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, the party described the abduction as a “tragic reminder of the normalization of insecurity” under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, noting that Nigerians are increasingly living in fear of attacks while exercising their constitutional right to freedom of worship.
According to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kajuru LGA, the attackers arrived in large numbers while worshippers were in service. Of the 172 initially abducted, nine reportedly escaped immediately after the attack.
The PDP criticized the government for prioritizing “international image laundering campaigns” over addressing the worsening insecurity in the country, calling for immediate and comprehensive rescue operations to ensure the safe return of the victims. The party also highlighted that if state policing were fully operational, such large-scale abductions might have been prevented.
“The protection of citizens is the government’s primary constitutional responsibility. Every Nigerian deserves to worship in safety. The Tinubu administration must demonstrate that Nigerian lives matter through immediate action, not empty promises,” the statement read.
The PDP further urged the federal government to avoid repeating mistakes observed during previous kidnappings, including the Niger school abduction, where the party says media optics compromised victim protection.
