The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the recent Court of Appeal judgment that invalidated the party’s November 2025 National Convention and announced steps to reconcile warring factions within the party.
The decision was contained in a communiqué issued on Wednesday in Abuja at the end of an Expanded Emergency Meeting of the BoT held on March 10 and 11, and presented by its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara.
The BoT said it disagrees with the ruling of the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, which invalidated the November 15–16, 2025 National Convention that produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
According to Wabara, the board is awaiting legal advice from its lawyers on the next line of action regarding the judgment.
The trustees expressed concern over the internal leadership disputes and litigations within the party, warning that the crisis is damaging the unity and smooth running of the PDP as Nigeria’s major opposition party.
Despite its disagreement with the court ruling, the BoT said it would explore the reconciliation window suggested by the Court of Appeal to resolve the leadership crisis.
To this end, the board announced the constitution of a special committee that will immediately engage legal teams and other stakeholders in order to facilitate reconciliation and restore stability in the party.
The BoT said the move is necessary to ensure that the PDP remains politically viable and able to field candidates in the 2027 general elections.
“The Board is resolved to take immediate steps to reconcile all stakeholders, put an end to all disputes and restore the party to good political health,” Wabara said.
The trustees also noted what they described as growing public support for the party, citing reports from across the country that millions of Nigerians are registering daily in the ongoing nationwide e-registration of PDP members.
According to the BoT, the development demonstrates that the PDP remains the preferred political platform for many Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
The board therefore urged party leaders and members to set aside personal and group interests and work together in the collective interest of the party.
The trustees also commended Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for their commitment and support for the PDP during the current crisis.
In addition, the BoT approved the appointment of former Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, as Secretary of the Board, in line with Section 32 of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
The BoT further urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, assuring that the PDP is working to reposition itself to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and provide leadership for the country.
