The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially reacted to the defection of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The party described the move, confirmed by Fintiri in a statewide broadcast, as “against political principles and morality” and a challenge to multi-party democracy.
In a statement signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, the party acknowledged the Governor’s legal right to defect, however criticized the decision as an abandonment of a platform that had supported him through multiple election cycles.
The statement described Fintiri’s action as “an exhibition of unrestrained cowardice, and not a mark of a principled politician.”
The PDP urged its members in Adamawa State to accept the defection with grace, remain committed to the party’s vision, stating that the “rebirth movement” of the party is ongoing and will ultimately reposition the PDP for electoral success.
While bidding the Governor farewell, the party reminded Fintiri that history and posterity remain the ultimate judges of political conduct, noting that his decision will be recorded as part of his legacy.
