The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has failed to honour an invitation extended to him by the police over allegations of multiple rape, other offences capable of causing breach of public peace.
The cleric was invited to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, on Monday to appear before the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the department at 10:00a.m.
However, sources at the SCID confirmed on Monday evening that Okafor did not show up as directed.
An officer at the SCID, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said following the Commissioner of Police’s directive, arrangements were immediately made to debrief the pastor.
“After the CP’s directive on Sunday, the DCP instructed the office handling the case to be ready to debrief him. They waited throughout the day, he did not show up. It is already evening, and he is obviously not coming today,” the source said.
Another police source
familiar with the development disclosed that the cleric allegedly sent emissaries to the police, appealing for more time.
“We received calls from some people who appealed on his behalf, asking the police authorities to give him more time. They gave assurances that he would still report. That is the information I have for now,” the source added.
The invitation followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, who ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of sexual offences and other acts, capable of disrupting public peace levelled against the pastor.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Adebisi, said the police had received several complaints against Okafor, prompting the commencement of investigations.
The command also disclosed that adequate security had been provided for the alleged victims, urged them to report to the SCID, Panti, where investigations had commenced. It assured that the identities of victims and witnesses would be kept confidential and protected throughout the process.
However, as of Monday evening, no individual had appeared at the SCID to identify as a victim or witness in relation to the allegations.
“None of the victims or witnesses also showed up at the SCID for interrogation,” a police source confirmed.
Efforts to get an official reaction from the police spokesperson on Monday proved unsuccessful, as calls made to Adebisi’s telephone line were not answered. A text message sent to her had yet to be replied to as of the time of filing this report.
The controversy surrounding the cleric began in mid-December 2025, when multiple allegations against him surfaced on social media and quickly gained public attention.
One of the allegations was made by Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who, in a series of Instagram videos posted on December 14, 2025, claimed she had a long-term sexual relationship with the pastor, beginning in 2017. She also accused him of making unfulfilled promises of marriage, sharing explicit content and contributing to the breakdown of her previous marriage.
Amid the growing backlash, Okafor reportedly addressed his congregation on New Year’s Day, during which he apologized for past “mistakes” and knelt at the pulpit seeking forgiveness.
The scandal has also generated reports that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is considering disciplinary action against the cleric, while he is said to have stepped aside from pastoral duties as investigations and public scrutiny continue.
