Several passengers sustained injuries on Monday morning after a train operating on the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor was involved in an incident that forced the service to halt midway.

The train, which departed Kaduna for Abuja, was unable to reach its destination as scheduled following the disruption along the busy rail line linking the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State.

A source within the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the development, while noting that details were still being assessed.

Passengers on board said the incident occurred suddenly, causing panic as the train came to an abrupt stop. Some eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud bang before the coaches jolted violently, throwing occupants off their seats, creating confusion inside the compartments.

Accounts from passengers indicated that the Abuja-bound train was believed to have collided with another train along the corridor, prompting a temporary suspension of operations while the situation was reviewed.

Several passengers reportedly sustained cuts and minor injuries after being flung against seats and metal fittings during the impact.

A passenger, Sada Malumfashi, who shared his experience on social media, described the incident as frightening, noting that the train remained stationary for about 30 minutes before resuming movement slowly towards Kubwa, on the outskirts of Abuja.

When contacted, the NRC spokesperson, Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed the incident and said an official statement would be issued to clarify the circumstances.
