The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has impounded at least 60 commercial motorcycles for failing to comply with the state government’s QR code jacket policy aimed at regulating operations and enhancing security.

The enforcement exercise, which began on Tuesday, was conducted in several parts of Ibadan, including Mokola, Gate Bus Stop, Idi-Ape and Iwo Road, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade.

Officials said the operation was designed to strengthen regulation, improve accountability and enhance safety among commercial motorcycle operators.

Speaking during the exercise, the Chairman of OYRTMA, Adekoya Adesagba (retd.), criticised continued non-compliance by some riders despite repeated warnings and sensitisation campaigns.

He stressed that adherence to the policy was necessary to safeguard lives and property, adding that enforcement would continue until full compliance is achieved.

Also addressing operators, the agency’s General Manager, Adeoye Adekola, warned against the use of fake QR code jackets, urging riders to regularise their registration through government-approved channels.

He said violators found with counterfeit identification would face prosecution.

OYRTMA assured residents that the enforcement drive would be extended to other parts of the state as part of efforts to promote order and safety on the roads.
