Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment towards security, tourism development, cultural exchange; assuring both residents and visitors of a safe, memorable Calabar carnival experience.
The Governor gave the assurance on Sunday in Calabar during the flag off of the 2025 Bikers Carnival, one of the flagship events of the globally celebrated Carnival Calabar.
Represented by his deputy, Dr Peter Odey, Governor Otu said his administration has taken deliberate steps to ensure the safety of participants and tourists, noting that he personally inspected the carnival routes to confirm they were motorable and free from hazards.
“Let the world know that Cross River State is safe. I have personally gone round the routes, there are no potholes. The roads are smooth, ready for this event,” the governor said.
He emphasized the need for strict compliance with safety rules, urging bikers to be properly kitted, maintain proper riding discipline to prevent accidents during the carnival.
Governor Otu further disclosed that adequate medical and emergency arrangements had been put in place, including the deployment of ambulances, medical personnel, comprehensive insurance coverage to ensure a hitch free celebration.
“With doctors on ground, ambulances strategically stationed, insurance fully covered, we want this carnival to be remembered for only positive reasons,” he added.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Commission, Gabe Onah, described the Bikers Carnival as a vital component of efforts to preserve the state’s cultural heritage while engaging younger generations through creativity, innovation.
Onah also revealed the presence of the ECOWAS Commission at the event, with representatives from 12 member countries in attendance.
According to him, their participation reflects the expanding regional relevance of Carnival Calabar, its growing impact on business, tourism, talent development and the creative economy across West Africa.

He noted that the carnival has continued to position Cross River State as a major cultural, tourism hub, attracting international attention and investment year after year.
