OLUREMI @65 EDUCATION FUND RAISES N25.5BN FOR NATIONAL LIBRARY

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced that the Oluremi @65 Education Fund, established to mark her 65th birthday, has raised a total of ₦25.5bn for the construction of the National Library.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the First Lady expressed gratitude to Nigerians, family members, friends, well-wishers who contributed to the initiative.

“I extend my appreciation to all Nigerians, family, friends, well-wishers who generously supported the Oluremi @65 Education Fund, created in commemoration of my 65th birthday on September 21, 2025, towards building the National Library,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu described the overwhelming response as a reflection of Nigerians’ shared commitment to education, knowledge preservation, national development.

“Your support affirms our shared commitment to education, preservation of knowledge, national development. I am deeply encouraged by the goodwill and unity this initiative has inspired,” she added.

She also confirmed that the donation account for the fund was closed on December 31, 2025, noting that the project would now be placed under the supervision of the Honourable Minister of Education. Any further contribution, she said, should be channelled through the Ministry.

“This project is under the supervision of the Honourable Minister of Education, and any further support may be channelled through the Ministry,” she stated.

Concluding her message, the First Lady thanked contributors once again, wished Nigerians a peaceful and prosperous 2026.

The Oluremi @65 Education Fund, which drew donations from across the country, ranks among the largest private initiatives in recent years, aimed at supporting educational infrastructure, preserving national knowledge assets.

Mrs Tinubu appealed to well-wishers to convert birthday gifts and goodwill messages into donations for the completion of the National Library project.

The former lawmaker, who turned 65 on September 21, 2025, had said in a video message that she chose to dedicate the day to God, a cause close to her heart, rather than host a lavish celebration.
