Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, has described the late Amayanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dr. Dandeson Douglas Jaja, as a father figure, patriot, and compassionate leader who served humanity with love and dedication.

Prof. Odu made the remark in a heartfelt tribute during a valedictory session organized by the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in honour of the late monarch in Port Harcourt.

She said the news of the King’s passing came as a great shock, noting that despite earlier rumours about his health, many people remained hopeful and prayed fervently for his recovery.

According to her, the hope was strengthened after she visited the late monarch at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he responded during prayers.

The Deputy Governor disclosed that the late King treated her like his own daughter, a relationship that was widely acknowledged by those close to him.

She added that both the monarch and his family consistently showed her and her family great dignity and unwavering support, especially during difficult moments, including the loss of her husband, mother, and elder sister.

Reflecting on one of her last encounters with the monarch at the hospital, Prof. Odu said his wave to her brought hope and peace, a moment she now cherishes as a lasting memory.

She further recalled that during the King’s 21st coronation anniversary on January 3, 2025, he conferred on her the prestigious traditional title of “Balolo of Opobo,” describing it as a rare honour that made her feel deeply valued.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, described the late Amayanabo of Opobo as a pragmatic ruler, advocate of peace, statesman, and father who served his people, Rivers State, and the nation with remarkable achievements.

Also speaking, the Head of Service of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. Inyingi Brown, said the late monarch embodied wisdom, fairness, and unwavering dedication to the preservation of the state’s rich cultural heritage.

Dr. Brown noted that the late King was a symbol of unity and a stabilizing force whose leadership brought peace, progress, and pride to the people of Opobo Kingdom and Rivers State.
