Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the Northern Region has reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing and constructive engagement with government officials, traditional institutions, and other faith communities, promoting peaceful coexistence and protecting citizens’ rights.
This initiative aims to address the security challenges, social tensions, and mistrust that affect communities in the North.
Rev. Joseph John Hayab, Chairman of Northern CAN, emphasized that overcoming these challenges requires collaboration among key stakeholders, including government authorities, community leaders, and faith-based organizations.
He emphasized that establishing meaningful partnerships with state actors and traditional institutions will foster dialogue, rebuild trust, and establish sustainable frameworks for peace and social stability.
The Church, in addition to its spiritual mission, is dedicated to nation-building through interfaith cooperation, community outreach, and civic engagement.
CAN’s strategy for engagement will focus on promoting justice, equity, lawful methods for addressing grievances while safeguarding the rights of Christians within the framework of the rule of law and the rights of all Nigerians.
Hayab expressed optimism that through sustained dialogue, responsible leadership, and a collective commitment, Nigeria can strengthen peace, security, and national integration in 2026.
He highlighted that peaceful coexistence is essential for the unity and progress of the country.
