Nollywood Actress Angela Okorie has been remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre following her arraignment over alleged cyber-related offences.
Okorie was arrested in Lagos on Tuesday by operatives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
She was subsequently taken into custody by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja.
Confirming the development on Wednesday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the actress was transferred to Abuja for further investigation and prosecution.
Filmmaker, Ajemba Stanley also confirmed that Okorie was arraigned before a court in Abuja on Wednesday and thereafter remanded in custody.
In a series of posts on social media, Stanley criticised the manner in which the arrest and arraignment were carried out, describing it as an abuse of power.
“You arrested Angela Okorie at midnight, flew her to Abuja as early as 6 a.m., and this morning took her to court, where she was remanded in Suleja prison,” he wrote.
He questioned the speed of the judicial process in the case and vowed to travel to Abuja to ensure her release, calling on authorities to respect due process.
“If anyone believes Angela Okorie defamed them, the proper step is to seek redress in court, not to use the police to oppress Nigerians,” Stanley said, adding that human rights groups were monitoring the situation.
As of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to issue an official statement detailing the specific charges against the actress.
However, industry sources suggested that the case may be linked to Okorie’s prolonged and public dispute with fellow Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson.
The feud intensified last year after Okorie made controversial claims about Johnson’s health and accused her of hypocrisy, remarks that triggered widespread backlash on social media.
