Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that any political party was denied access to the Eagle Square, insisting that no formal request was submitted for its use.

Speaking on Monday, Wike said he was unaware of any such development, adding that if the allegation involved the African Democratic Congress (ADC), it was likely an attempt to attract public sympathy.

“Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development, and I don’t even know which party you are referring to. If it is the ADC, such claims are their usual attempt to gain public sympathy,” he said.

The Minister explained that access to the Eagle Square is governed by due process, which includes submitting a formal application through the Abuja Investments Company Limited, the agency responsible for managing the facility and payment of the required fees.

He emphasized that no group would be denied access if proper procedures are followed, citing instances where both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) complied with the requirements in using public venues.

Wike also clarified that the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome is not under the jurisdiction of the FCT Administration but the National Sports Commission.

“As we speak, no formal application has been submitted to the Abuja Investments Company Limited. When APC used the venue and PDP used the Velodrome, they followed due process. We do not deny anyone access if the rules are adhered to,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja during an inspection tour, noting that key road projects are expected to be completed by May 15.

According to him, contractors have assured that road construction will be concluded within the timeline, while streetlight installations will be finalized before the end of May.

He further disclosed that protective mesh would be installed in Gaduwa to prevent encroachment on road corridors, while relocation plans were underway for informal sector operators, including traders from the Apo Mechanic Village, to a newly developed facility at Wassa.

Wike also addressed reports of damage to the Kugbo Bus Terminal following a windstorm, clarifying that the structure remained intact and only roofing sheets were affected.

“The terminal did not collapse. Strong winds only blew off parts of the roof, and repairs are already ongoing. No lives were lost,” he said.

The Minister attributed the steady pace of development in the FCT to effective collaboration between the government and contractors, as well as prompt payment for executed projects.
