The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that there will be no extension for the registration of candidates for the 2026 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).

In a statement signed by its Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, NECO urged schools, proprietors, principals, and commandants to ensure that all candidates are registered within the stipulated deadlines.

According to the council, the deadline for normal registration is Monday, May 25, 2026, while late registration will close on Friday, May 29, 2026, with no provision for further extension.

“The last date for the normal registration of candidates by schools is Monday, 25th May 2026, while the deadline for late registration is Friday, 29th May 2026, with no further extension,” the statement read.

NECO stressed the importance of strict compliance with the registration timeline to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination, which remains a critical requirement for students seeking admission into tertiary institutions, scholarships, and other post-secondary opportunities.

The examination body warned that failure to meet the deadlines could prevent candidates from sitting for the examination, thereby disrupting their academic progression.

The council added that the directive is part of ongoing efforts to streamline examination processes and keep stakeholders adequately informed of key timelines for the 2026 SSCE cycle.
