As part of ongoing efforts to curb crude oil theft, other criminal activities within Delta territorial waters, the newly appointed Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, has pledged to fully implement the directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, towards safeguarding national assets in the region.
Commodore Tasiu made this commitment during the handover ceremony marking his assumption of office as Commander of NNS Delta, succeeding Commodore Abdullahi Zubairu. The brief ceremony took place on Friday at the NNS Delta Command in Warri.
The event was attended by the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim.
In his remarks, the new commander stated that his leadership would align with the mandate of the Chief of the Naval Staff through effective collaboration with relevant stakeholders. He also assured that existing partnerships with private security organizations would be strengthened.
Commodore Tasiu further appealed to host communities to support naval operations by providing timely and credible intelligence to enhance the protection of critical national infrastructure. He expressed his determination to build on the achievements of his predecessor while introducing improved strategies to secure the command’s operational area.
Prior to his appointment, Commodore Tasiu served as the Base Operations Officer at NNS Delta and previously held the position of Commanding Officer at the Forward Operating Base, Escravos.
