The National Judicial Council (NJC) has forwarded the names of 14 candidates to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court.

The council confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday, stating that the decision was taken during its 110th meeting held on January 13 and 14, 2026.

According to the statement, the meeting was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, where the council resolved to recommend the successful candidates to the President.

“The Council at its 110th Meeting held on 13 and 14 January 2026, presided over by the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, resolved to recommend to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 14 names of successful candidates for appointment as Judges of the Federal High Court,” the statement read.

The NJC explained that the submission of the names was initially delayed due to the unavailability of security reports on the candidates.

It said the council decided to await the completion of the security screening process before forwarding the recommendations.

“Having received the security report, with no adverse comments on any of the recommended candidates, Council, today, the 22nd day of January 2026, forwarded the names of the following candidates to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the council stated.

The recommended candidates are Suleiman Amida Hassan, Muhammad Barau Saidu, Igboko Chinelo Conchita, Onuegbu Chioma Angela, Galumje Edingah, Ibrahim Vera Eneabo, Abubakar Musa Usman, and Salihu Aisha Yunusa.

Others include Ikpeme Joy Bassey, Shehu Umaru Adamu, Mohammed Ibrahim Buba, Eigege-Binjin Nendelmum Judith, Usoro Kuyik Uduak, and Nwoye Osinachi Donatus.

The latest recommendation follows a similar move last week when the NJC forwarded the name of Justice Joseph Oyewole, Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, to the President for appointment to the Supreme Court, alongside 35 other candidates for various judicial offices across the country.
