The Federal Government has entered new discussions with China as part of efforts to expand non oil revenue under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with emphasis on agriculture, trade growth, and skills development for Nigerian youths.
The engagement took place between Senator Babangida Hussaini, who represents Jigawa North East and chairs the Senate Committee on the Northwest Development Commission, and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai.
In a statement released in Dutse, Senator Hussaini described the meeting as “productive and fulfilling.” He said both parties explored strategies to expand exports of key agricultural products such as sesame seeds and hibiscus flowers, improve access to global markets, and build stronger commercial links capable of boosting local economies.
“We discussed establishing a strong and sustainable trade linkage between our major markets particularly Gujungu Market and the Maigatari International Border Market and markets in China,” he said.
He noted that the talks also touched on opportunities for Nigerian youths to access training, exposure, and capacity building programmes in China in areas including technology, skills acquisition, and postgraduate education.
“I am confident that these partnerships will open new doors for our young people, enabling them to grow, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to national development,” Senator Hussaini said.
He expressed appreciation to Ambassador Yu Dunhai for his willingness to collaborate, and reaffirmed his commitment to partnerships that promote long term development in Jigawa and across Nigeria.
