Nigeria’s non oil export sector recorded its strongest performance on record in 2025, with export earnings rising to an all time high of about 6.1 billion United States dollars, representing an 11.5 percent increase compared to the previous year.

This was disclosed by the Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Nonye Ayeni, during a press briefing on the performance of non oil exports and the 2026 outlook held at the Export House in Abuja.

Ayeni revealed that total non oil export volume increased to 8.02 million metric tonnes in 2025, up from 7.29 million metric tonnes recorded in 2024. She added that Nigeria successfully exported 281 different non oil products to over 120 countries across the world, reflecting growing global confidence in Nigerian products.

According to her, the Netherlands, Brazil and India emerged as the top export destinations, while cocoa and its derivatives, urea fertilizer, cashew nuts, sesame seed and solid minerals accounted for the bulk of export earnings during the year.

She attributed the impressive growth to deliberate government policies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly efforts focused on economic diversification, expansion of local production, job creation and improved access to international markets for Nigerian exporters.

Ayeni reaffirmed NEPC’s commitment towards strengthening export infrastructure, supporting small and medium scale exporters, expanding value added processing to ensure Nigeria continues to grow its non oil revenue base and reduce dependence on crude oil earnings.
