The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has renewed its call for the local manufacturing of HIV medicines and related commodities as the country commemorates World AIDS Day 2025.
In a statement issued to mark the global observance, the association emphasized that strengthening Nigeria’s domestic pharmaceutical capacity is crucial to sustaining treatment access—especially as international funding for the HIV response continues to decline.
The ACPN noted that community pharmacists remain “central to the nation’s HIV treatment and prevention efforts,” describing them as frontline providers closest to the people who depend on uninterrupted care.
According to the association, locally produced HIV commodities would not only safeguard treatment continuity but also enhance the overall resilience of Nigeria’s health system.

The statement further urged government agencies, policymakers, development partners and healthcare professionals to recommit to collaborative action, stressing that the fight against HIV requires the dedication of every stakeholder.
“May today serve as a reminder of our collective responsibility and an inspiration for renewed, transformative action,” the ACPN added.
